Events
Here at ROOTS we take our families on an educational and fun-filled weekend, somewhere outdoors in Nature. We focus on the area we are visiting and learn about their wildlife, ecosystem, indigenous traditions and the natural world. We explore the best nature has to offer while moving our bodies and getting healthier, inside and out! We currently visit two locations in California for our camps, Fort Bragg and Lake Tahoe. Along with their parents, grandparents, aunts or uncles, our Native youth will learn about the planet we occupy as well as themselves and our history.
Coastal ROOTS
Our Coastal ROOTS weekends take place in Fort Bragg, California. With an emphasis on natural science and outdoor fun, the children and their families observe and identify coastal sea life, plants, and other single-celled organisms, play and explore on the beach, bike ride along the coast, and hike to a waterfall. We offer Nature-based activities, cultural immersion, as well as Traditional Ecological Knowledge (TEK) practices. Having fun while being outdoors is what we are all about! Families can enjoy beach volleyball and group bike rides. We have a close relationship with Xa Kako Dile, who host our group at Fortunate Farm for evening activities which include gardening, harvesting, farm life observations, along with arts and creativity classes centered around nature and sustainability.

Tahoe ROOTS
Our 2 week long ROOTS trip to Lake Tahoe is an immersive and educational experience for all! Our lessons incorporate learning of the wetlands, water cycle, and Lake Tahoe's natural world. Students also learn how to paddle board, kayak, and bike ride with a group. We promote a healthy lifestyle by eating organic foods and nutritious snacks, while keeping our bodies moving and active! Traditional practices incorporated are oral storytelling, drum teachings, and practicing Traditional Ecological Knowledge (TEK).
